Wondering what to do with your old climbing rope? Easy. Turn it into a great door mat or small rug! The video below shows what you need to do.

You can download and print out the climbing rope rug template (as mentioned in the video) here at the Edelrid website. You’ll also find there a list of the materials and tools you’ll need to make the rug/mat. In addition to the printed pattern, you’ll need a a couple 20-meter sections of climbing rope, a piece of wood, some nails, and something to cut the rope (and treat the ends so that they don’t fray).

When you’re finished, it’ll look something like this:

  1. I love the design of the mat in the tutorial. I converted meters to feet and mm to inches and downloaded the pattern. The pattern is a little smaller than my standard printer paper. The box around the pattern itself is is 6 34 inches by 9 inches . Is the pattern downloadable in sections tha can be taped together? If not, how many times larger should I draw it? If I make it too small I won’t get many laps, too large and there will be big spaces. Please help so I can try this out Btw, I’m using polypropylene 3/8 inch rope for this project. it looks a little stiffer than the used climbing rope in the tutorial but I think I can still manage the turns.
